Ben Urban | Partner
Ben closely collaborates with his clients to build, manage, and utilize their patent portfolios. He strives to understand not only his client's business objectives, but also the competitive landscape, in order to effectively support their goals.
Ben has extensive experience in the areas of audio playback and synchronization, audio calibration, voice processing and control, and cloud computing, having successfully prosecuted over 500 patent applications to issuance in these technologies. He has also represented clients in patent matters related to a wide variety of other technological fields such as telecommunications, robotics, web-conferencing, online gaming, and medical devices, among others.
Ben has worked with clients at all stages of growth, from individual inventors to the largest technology firms. He has experience in all phases of US and foreign patent prosecution, as well as strategic portfolio counseling, due diligence, opinion, and litigation.
Before joining Fortem IP, Ben practiced patent law at McDonnell, Bochnen, Hulbert, and Berghoff LLP and Akerman LLP in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as an engineer for National Instruments Corp. in Austin, Texas, before becoming an attorney.
In his free time, Ben enjoys travelling with his wife Anne, and all kinds of DIY projects, such as home improvements, homelab, and homebrew.
